US doctor Mehmet Oz recently shared that President Donald Trump believes that diet soda can eliminate cancer cells in the body. Dr. Oz, who serves as the Administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, mentioned during a podcast with Donald Trump Jr that the President thinks diet soda is beneficial because it can kill grass, thus implying it may also target cancer cells internally.
However, it is important to note that there is no scientific backing for President Trump’s assertion that diet soda has the ability to combat cancer.
This is not the first instance where Trump’s dietary habits have been called into question by a close associate. US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Junior criticized the President’s eating patterns, labeling them as the most “unhinged” among his administration members.
Kennedy highlighted Trump’s fondness for fast-food, particularly mentioning his preference for McDonald’s, candies, and Diet Coke. Despite concerns raised about Trump’s eating choices, Kennedy noted that the President only indulges in junk food while traveling, opting for healthier options when at Mar-a-Lago or the White House.
In a related incident in October 2025, Republican National Committee chair Joe Gruters disclosed that Trump crafted a unique McDonald’s super-burger during the 2024 campaign trail, combining a Filet-o-Fish, a Quarter Pounder, and a Big Mac. This excessive consumption of processed foods has been associated with chronic illnesses like diabetes and obesity, issues that Trump and Kennedy’s “Make America Healthy Again” campaign aims to address.
