A 19-year-old girl was fatally attacked by what was described as a gentle family dog, challenging the notion that dangerous dogs are tied to specific breeds. The tragic incident occurred in Leaden Roding, Essex, late Friday night. The dog, identified as Shy, a seven-year-old blue merle lurcher, was the family pet.
Upon returning home, the girl’s father, Jack Biscoe, discovered the devastating scene of his daughter, Jamie-Lea Biscoe, lying lifeless with a neck wound in his bedroom. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene, attributing the injuries to the dog, which was subsequently taken into police custody.
Jack recalled acquiring Shy as a puppy seven years ago, emphasizing the close bond between his daughter and the dog. Despite describing Shy as a gentle companion, he highlighted the swift and tragic nature of the incident, underscoring that dangerous behavior in dogs is not limited to specific breeds.
In a heart-wrenching account, Jack described the harrowing moment he found his daughter’s lifeless body and attempted to resuscitate her, only to be attacked by Shy, resulting in severe injuries, including the loss of part of his ear. The other two dogs in the household, Bella and Mouse, were present during the incident and were also taken into custody.
Following the incident, a neighbor expressed sympathy for the family, emphasizing the shock and devastation felt by the community. Essex Police’s Assistant Chief Constable, Stuart Hooper, extended condolences to Jamie-Lea’s loved ones and assured ongoing efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
As investigations continue, Jack was arrested on suspicion of being in control of a dangerously aggressive dog leading to a fatal injury. Despite being released on bail, inquiries are ongoing. The authorities urge anyone with information or concerns to come forward while respecting the family’s privacy during this difficult time.
