When you power up your laptop in the morning, whether at home or in the office, chances are you’ll see a familiar image shared by millions of users worldwide.

Before starting your workday, Windows users are greeted with a lock screen displaying a serene beach scene. The image features golden sands, clear blue waters, and two distinct rock formations emerging from the sea, offering a calming view for the day ahead.

While most users may not think about the location of this iconic beach, a few enthusiasts have successfully pinpointed it to Wharariki Beach, situated on the northernmost tip of New Zealand’s South Island. Accessing the beach requires a 20-minute trek through sandy dunes from the nearest car park due to its remote location.

Known for its caves, rock formations, and seal colonies, Wharariki Beach offers unique natural wonders. Visitors are advised against swimming due to strong currents and should be prepared for windy conditions by layering up during exploration.

The beach’s fame has soared, attracting Instagram attention with over 12,000 posts referencing the iconic photograph and attempts to recreate the same picturesque view through the archway.

Traveling to Wharariki Beach from the UK involves a lengthy journey with no direct flights to New Zealand. The trip typically includes a 24-hour travel time to Auckland, followed by a domestic flight to Nelson and finally a drive plus hike to reach the beach. For those without ample air miles and vacation time, enjoying the scenic view from your laptop might be the more practical choice.
