Luke Littler has been praised as the “greatest darts player of all time” by Luke Humphries following the 19-year-old’s victory in the World Masters. Littler defeated Humphries 6-5 in a thrilling match to secure his 11th major PDC title and the £100,000 prize, displaying a remarkable 104.72 average and hitting 13 maximums in Milton Keynes.
Having triumphed over Josh Rock and narrowly bested Gerwyn Price in the semi-final with a 5-4 scoreline, Littler showcased his talent on the big stage. He now stands as the joint third most successful darts player in history, alongside James Wade, with only Michael van Gerwen (48) and Phil Taylor (79) ahead in terms of titles won.
Despite needing a victory in the European Championship to complete his collection of PDC ranked titles, Littler has already been hailed by Humphries for his exceptional skills in the field.
Reflecting on his performance, Littler acknowledged the pressure put on him by Humphries but commended his opponent’s class and ability to handle pressure, labeling him as the best darts player in history. Although Humphries had a higher average at 105.51 and led 5-4 in the match, Littler rallied to secure victory in the final two sets.
With Price narrowly missing a match dart and Littler capitalizing on key moments in the final, including a 153 checkout and two 121 finishes, the young player showcased his resilience and skill on the darts board.
Despite the defeat, Humphries acknowledged the positives from the tournament and expressed confidence in his game moving forward. Littler’s recent successes against Humphries in major TV finals highlight his current dominance in the sport.
