A significant makeover worth £500,000 is underway for the UK’s largest waterpark, recently recognized as one of the top waterparks globally, just in time for the Easter break.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the waterpark, a perennial favorite among visitors due to its consistent 28C warmth throughout the year. The Sandcastle Waterpark in Blackpool, situated along the iconic promenade near Pleasure Beach and South Pier, offers a range of attractions, including 18 slides catering to both thrill-seekers and families with kids. Among its top draws is the Master Blaster, renowned as the longest indoor water rollercoaster in the UK.
Upgrades at the waterpark include a revamp of the changing village, the addition of lockers with digital PIN codes for enhanced security, repainting of rides, and installation of a new audio system as confirmed in a recent Facebook post marking the completion of phase one of the refurbishment.
During this period, the waterpark operates on weekends only, but it will resume weekday openings by the end of the month, just in time for the Easter holidays. During peak seasons like summer, the waterpark is open seven days a week.
Advance online tickets for guests aged eight and above are priced at £24.95 each, while tickets for children aged three to seven can be purchased online for £15.95, and those under two enter for free. Each ticket provides a three-hour session with access to all waterslides.
Visitors can experience exhilarating rides like the Sidewinder, the world’s first indoor half-pipe waterslide, or the rapid descent of Montazooma in just 20 seconds. The Duelling Dragons offers a thrilling race to the bottom with one ride on the green side and another on the red side.
For younger guests, attractions include the vibrant Treetops Water Chutes and the expansive Caribbean Storm Treehouse, a splash park with interactive elements such as water cannons and buckets to keep kids entertained.
Those looking for a retreat from the excitement can reserve a Tiki Cabana, a private sanctuary offering all-day waterpark access, a private hot tub with TV, a fridge stocked with soft drinks and lunch, priced at £60 per person, catering to families and groups seeking an extended stay at the park.
The waterpark also features a spa area exclusively for guests over 18, including amenities like a sauna, heated loungers, and steam rooms available for an additional £7 on top of admission, allowing guests to indulge in relaxation during their three-hour slot.
Situated on Blackpool’s seafront, the waterpark offers a variety of activities post-water adventures, such as tram rides along the promenade, beach activities like sandcastle building, or visits to attractions like Pasaje del Terror for immersive horror experiences or Blackpool Pleasure Beach for iconic rides including rollercoasters.
