A man, Jordan Herring, aged 22, laughed as he was sentenced for pushing his 18-year-old partner, Bobbie Goodman, out of a tower block window, causing her to fall 40ft to the ground. The judge criticized Herring for his lack of remorse over three years after the incident, branding him as “dangerous.” The attack occurred in Solihull, West Midlands, in November 2022, following a dispute fueled by cannabis and unfounded accusations of cheating.

CCTV footage captured the moment when Ms. Goodman was pushed out of the flat, leading to her landing on a grassy area, narrowly avoiding a concrete footpath. Emergency services were not alerted until an hour later, and Ms. Goodman was airlifted to the hospital with severe injuries including a collapsed lung, pelvis fractures, and rib injuries.

Herring, convicted of unlawful wounding, was sentenced to five years in custody with an additional one-year license. He was acquitted of attempted murder and inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent charges. Additionally, Herring was found guilty of controlling and coercive behavior towards Ms. Goodman, involving isolation, confinement, phone intrusion, and physical assault.

During sentencing, Herring, now a father, displayed nonchalant behavior, including laughing and acknowledging family members in the gallery. Judge Simon Drew criticized Herring’s conduct post-incident and emphasized the severity of using the tower block as a dangerous weapon. The judge highlighted Herring’s lack of insight, minimal remorse, and continued drug use in prison, leading to a sentence extension due to being a dangerous offender.

Herring received a 12-month sentence for coercive and controlling behavior, with half to be served before starting a four-year custodial term for unlawful wounding. Following a troubled history, including a previous stabbing incident, Herring’s controlling behavior escalated after Ms. Goodman moved in with him. The relationship spiraled into violence, culminating in the tragic incident where Herring pushed Ms. Goodman out of the window. In a poignant statement, Ms. Goodman expressed gratitude for surviving and the realization of the controlling nature of her relationship with Herring, leading to family issues that should never have occurred.
