Frankie Dettori has officially retired from horse racing after securing a notable victory in Brazil by winning the first part of the nation’s Triple Crown. Initially planning to retire during Champions Day at Ascot in October 2023, Dettori had a change of heart and decided to prolong his career in the United States.

The 55-year-old jockey revealed his decision to conclude his time in the sport at the Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar last November before embarking on a final tour in South America, culminating at Gavea racecourse in Rio de Janeiro. During this farewell tour, Dettori achieved success by riding two winners – Speak Alpha and Bet You Can in the Brazilian 2,000 Guineas, known as the Grande Premio Estado do Rio De Janeiro.

This last triumph allowed Dettori to execute his iconic flying dismount celebration. Reflecting on his final race, he expressed his surprise and joy at winning a Group 1 event on his retirement day, stating, “It’s been brilliant. I was very emotional. I enjoyed everything. I’ve had a beautiful career, and I’m grateful that I can leave in good health.”

While acknowledging the end of his jockey career, Dettori emphasized his continued involvement in racing by accepting a role as a global ambassador for Amo Racing, led by Kia Joorabchian. In a heartfelt message to his fans on social media, he thanked his family, supporters, colleagues, and fans for their unwavering love and encouragement throughout his illustrious racing journey.
