A teenager, identified as Ashamekh Bortata, a 17-year-old student from Liverpool, was tragically discovered lifeless in a lake near Wrexham. The incident occurred on April 7 when emergency services responded to a distress call reporting the teen’s drowning near Chirk Castle. An inquest into the unfortunate death of Ashamekh was initiated in Ruthin, North Wales.

According to Coroner John Gittins, on the same day, a friend of the teenager alerted emergency services about the drowning situation. Upon arrival, the police found several young individuals who had journeyed from Liverpool and ventured into the castle grounds. It was reported that they came across woodland and the lake, where Ashamekh went into the water.

The North Wales Fire Service was also present and conducted a search operation, which led to the discovery of a body by police divers the following day. The coroner revealed that a preliminary cause of death, as determined by a pathologist, was drowning, stating that the case would progress to an inquest.

The hearing was adjourned to allow for further investigation into the tragic incident.
