A leading UK-bound airline servicing popular vacation spots is set to launch economy seats that convert into a ‘flat bed’ for enhanced passenger comfort during long-haul flights. United Airlines, known for its extensive global network with over 340 destinations, will introduce a dedicated row of three economy seats that can seamlessly transform into a “lie-flat mattress-like space”.
The innovative seats will offer individual adjustability, featuring leg rests that can fold up to a 90-degree angle, allowing travelers to stretch out for entertainment or convert it into a bed for a restful sleep experience. Passengers will enjoy a custom-fitted mattress pad, specially sized blankets, and extra pillows as the seats transition into a flat bed post-takeoff.
In addition to the premium amenities, children seated in this dedicated row will receive a plush toy and a family travel kit, catering to families with young children, couples, and solo travelers seeking more space. The airline’s announcement of the ‘United Relax Row’ on social media platforms garnered positive reactions from travelers expressing excitement and appreciation for the new offering.
This initiative marks a significant milestone as the first North American airline to provide such seat and comfort options to economy passengers. United Airlines plans to roll out the United Relax Row in 2027, extending the feature to more than 200 of its Boeing 787 and 777 widebody aircraft by 2030. Each aircraft will accommodate up to 12 United Relax Row sections situated between United Economy and United Premium Plus.
Andrew Nocella, United’s Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted the airline’s commitment to delivering top-tier experiences for all passengers, emphasizing the importance of offering more space and comfort, particularly for long-haul travelers in United Economy. The introduction of the United Relax Row underscores United Airlines’ dedication to attracting and retaining loyal customers with innovative services.
