A significant transition is on the horizon for phone users in the UK, as traditional copper landlines are being phased out in favor of Digital Voice technology. This shift, set to take effect in January 2027, promises improved call quality and new features like call forwarding to mobile phones and enhanced call screening to combat scams.

To ensure a smooth transition, BT has launched a campaign fronted by Clare Balding urging homeowners to prepare for the digital switch. Research shows that many Brits tend to procrastinate on important tasks, assuming that if something is still functional, there is no rush to act.

Customers can expect to retain their phone numbers and incur no additional costs during the switch to Digital Voice. Most households will simply need to connect their existing phones to their broadband hubs instead of the traditional wall sockets. However, those experiencing difficulties may need to contact their providers for assistance.

Lucy Baker, Consumer Digital Voice Director at BT, emphasized the importance of heeding messages from service providers to avoid disruptions in essential connections. The move to Digital Voice marks a significant upgrade to the UK’s communication infrastructure, offering improved reliability and security for users.

In addition, BT advises customers with specific needs, such as users of telecare devices, to notify their providers promptly for tailored support. Digital Voice, BT’s new home phone service, leverages broadband technology to provide modern features like conference calling and call diversion, all included in a single package price without any extra charges.

Upgrade to Digital Voice is seamless for most households and promises enhanced call quality and functionality. By embracing this technology shift, users can benefit from a more reliable and secure communication experience while staying connected to essential services.
