A tragic incident unfolded at a renowned archaeological site in Mexico, where a Canadian woman lost her life and several others sustained injuries in a shooting carried out by a gunman. The violence occurred at the Teotihuacán archaeological zone, situated about an hour north of Mexico City, as reported by Mexican authorities.

The assailant, after the attack, took his own life, as confirmed by officials. Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement recovered a firearm, a bladed weapon, and live ammunition. The violent act resulted in at least six individuals being harmed, with four suffering gunshot wounds and two injured while attempting to escape.

Preliminary reports suggest that the attacker traversed a mid-level platform of the Pyramid of the Sun before ending his own life. Videos circulating online depict the gunman moving around the structure while visitors gathered below on the steps.

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum addressed the shooting on social media and assured that the Canadian Embassy has been contacted. In her statement, she expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended solidarity to those affected and their families.

Sheinbaum also directed the Security Cabinet to conduct a thorough investigation into the events and provide necessary assistance. Officials from the Secretariat of the Interior and Culture are en route to the site to offer support and accompany those affected, in collaboration with local authorities.
