Police authorities in Russia have initiated an inquiry following an incident where a circus tiger made a daring escape during a performance and jumped into the audience. The alarming incident took place in Rostov-on-Don, with the captive circus tiger taking advantage of a sudden malfunction to run loose.
Video footage of the incident captures the moment when the tiger, previously part of the circus act, swiftly seizes the opportunity to leap into the crowd after a mechanical failure lowered the separating net. Spectators can be seen reacting with shock as the tiger lands among them, prompting some to swiftly exit their seats.
Witnesses recounted scenes of chaos and fear as the tiger broke free, with one individual describing how the animal startled and leaped into the audience, causing distress among children and adults. Despite the panic, no injuries were reported as the tiger was safely recaptured a short distance away from the tent.
Circus director Nikolai Dovgaluk assured that the situation was swiftly under control, attributing the incident to a technical fault and emphasizing that the tame tigers posed no serious threat to the audience. An investigation into safety protocols has been initiated by Russia’s federal Investigative Committee in response to the incident.
Despite stricter regulations in many Western countries, Russian circuses continue to include performances with captive animals like bears, elephants, and Siberian tigers, showcased by renowned troupes such as the Bolshoi and the Moscow State Circus.
