The Chief Rabbi of the UK has expressed concern over a series of recent attacks targeting the Jewish community, stating that such incidents are increasing in frequency. The latest incident involved an arson attack at the Kenton United Synagogue in Harrow, which Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis condemned as “cowardly.” Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, but some minor smoke damage occurred inside the synagogue.
This attack is part of a pattern of arson attacks and attempted arsons on Jewish sites and properties over the past month, with counter-terror police now involved in the investigations. Sir Ephraim highlighted the recent attacks on Jewish sites in London and emphasized the need to address the escalating violence and intimidation against the Jewish community.
Metropolitan Police confirmed that the attack on Kenton United Synagogue took place around midnight, resulting in damage to a window. No arrests have been made so far. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans stated that experienced detectives are looking into the attacks on Jewish and Israeli businesses. She mentioned that a group called Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya has claimed responsibility for some of these attacks but stressed that the investigations are ongoing.
DAC Evans warned against any activities that seek to harm communities and create division, regardless of the group’s motivations. She also highlighted the need to remain vigilant against potential threats from Iranian hostile activity. Forensic officers and other personnel are currently conducting investigations at the scene, with a large cordon in place.
It is essential to stay informed about the evolving situation and to support efforts to combat such acts of violence and intimidation.
