Nigel Farage faced a group of protesters during his visit to the Shetland Islands, with one person calling him a ‘scrounger.’ The leader of Reform UK was seen campaigning in Lerwick after attending a party rally in Aberdeen. In a video circulating on social media, Farage engaged in a heated exchange with a demonstrator outside public toilets, suggesting the need for more wealthy individuals in politics. The demonstrator responded by accusing Farage of promoting the idea of more billionaires like himself in politics, referring to them as ‘scroungers.’ Farage dismissed the hecklers as examples of “modern-day Marxism” and labeled their views as “deluded.”
A sign along one of Shetland’s main roads disparagingly referred to the Clacton MP as a “frog-faced w****r.” Reform UK is vying in the Scottish parliament election, currently trailing behind Labour and the SNP in recent opinion polls. The party’s candidate in the Shetland constituency is Vic Currie.
Scottish Labour candidate John Erskine criticized Farage’s visit, stating that the people of Shetland, like those across Scotland, are likely to reject him at the polls on May 7. Erskine described Farage as a divisive figure who would only benefit the SNP and emphasized the need for change rather than what he called “Tory lies and divisive politics.”
During a rally in Aberdeen, Farage expressed confidence in his party’s potential to secure significant power in Holyrood by 2031. He highlighted the leadership of Malcolm Offord in Scotland and outlined a plan to establish Reform UK in Holyrood with the aim of winning outright control in the future.
