I Am Maximus achieved a remarkable victory by winning the Randox Grand National at Aintree, becoming the first horse since the iconic Red Rum to achieve this feat. The race favorite, with odds of 9-2, secured a significant win after a £100,000 bet at 8-1 odds was placed at the racecourse, potentially earning the bettor £800,000.

Trained by Willie Mullins, I Am Maximus had previously won the race in 2024 and finished as runner-up the year before. This victory marked a historic moment as no horse had managed to reclaim the Grand National title since Red Rum’s back-to-back wins in 1973 and 1974.

Under the skilled riding of Paul Townend, I Am Maximus overcame Jordans to clinch the victory, leading to a one-two-four finish for horses owned by billionaire JP McManus. This win marked Mullins’s third consecutive Grand National triumph, placing him alongside legendary trainers Ginger McCain and Fred Rimell with four wins each.

Reflecting on the race, Townend credited the use of cheekpieces for aiding his performance, emphasizing the horse’s determination throughout the event. Despite facing stiff competition, Townend’s decision to ride I Am Maximus over other options proved pivotal, especially as Grangeclare West, a potential contender, fell at the first fence.

McManus expressed his delight at the win, highlighting the horse’s suitability for the National and the exceptional ride by Townend. The victory, McManus’s fourth in the race, showcased I Am Maximus’s prowess and adaptability to the challenging course at Aintree. The significance of this win was not lost on McManus, who acknowledged the horse’s potential to further excel in future races.

The Grand National at Aintree continues to captivate fans and participants alike, offering thrilling moments and unforgettable performances.
