With the summer months approaching, Virgin Media has shared some valuable tips to ensure optimal broadband performance throughout the year. While common recommendations like placing the router centrally and restarting it monthly are well-known, factors like weather changes can also impact connectivity.

As temperatures soar during the warmer seasons, routers can face added stress, affecting their performance. To combat this, Virgin Media suggests keeping routers in cool, well-ventilated areas. The company highlighted that high temperatures can strain broadband equipment, both indoors and outdoors.

The blog update from Virgin Media explained, “Hot weather can exert additional pressure on broadband devices. While external equipment can handle heat, internal routers may struggle if they become too warm. Adequate airflow is crucial for router functionality. Placing the router in confined spaces, near heat sources, or in direct sunlight can lead to overheating issues, resulting in slower speeds or intermittent connections.”

To maintain optimal performance, it is advised to relocate the router to cooler spaces during hot weather. Virgin Media emphasized that most weather-related broadband issues stem from indoor factors like thick walls, crowded devices, and poor router placement, rather than external weather conditions.

For improved Wi-Fi performance, Virgin Media recommends positioning the router in an open, central location away from direct sunlight and suggests avoiding obstruction by large metal objects or furniture. After severe weather events, it is essential to check and secure cables to prevent any damage.

Lastly, to reduce interference, limiting the number of connected devices simultaneously can help ensure a stable connection. By following these tips, users can optimize their broadband experience regardless of the weather conditions.
