Planning a family holiday that ticks all the boxes can be challenging. You want a destination with stunning beaches and natural beauty, but it also needs to be convenient and budget-friendly.

easyJet recently unveiled its Family Holiday Index, ranking top destinations for families based on various factors such as travel logistics, beach accessibility, costs, and available family activities. Among the top ten destinations, Spanish locations dominated six spots. Surprisingly, an Italian island, known as the ‘Caribbean of Europe,’ secured the sixth position due to its breathtaking beaches and pristine landscapes.

Sardinia emerged as a top family-friendly destination, boasting a wide range of beaches, family-centric activities, and easy access from the UK. The island is served by two main airports: Cagliari Elmas Airport in the south and Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport in the north, both offering convenient travel options. easyJet provides seasonal flights to Olbia from various UK cities, including Bristol, Edinburgh, London-Gatwick, and London-Luton. Alternatively, Ryanair and British Airways offer routes to Cagliari from the UK.

With easyJet flights to Sardinia starting from just £35.60 one way in May, traveling to the island is affordable and manageable for families. Booking a Sardinia holiday package with easyJet Holidays, such as a quadruple room stay in Borgo di Campagna departing on May 8, costs £340 per person. By using the code SPRINGSALE at checkout, you can save an additional £100 on the package total.

Spiaggia La Pelosa stands out as one of Sardinia’s premier family-friendly beaches, featuring soft white sands and calm turquoise waters ideal for children to play and paddle. Controlled access to the beach during the summer season ensures a more pleasant experience, requiring advanced booking and a nominal entry fee.

The Costa Smeralda region offers a variety of beaches along a 35-mile coastline, known for its upscale resorts, fine dining, and designer shops. For adventurous kids who enjoy swimming, a boat trip to La Maddalena Archipelago, accessible only by boat, provides a unique experience with opportunities for snorkeling and swimming in the pristine waters.

History enthusiasts will appreciate Sardinia’s ancient sites, such as Su Nuraxi di Barumini and Cagliari’s Castello, rich in historical significance dating back thousands of years. A visit to the Roman Amphitheatre of Cagliari offers insights into ancient Roman practices and events, captivating young minds with tales of gladiator battles and executions.

Sardinian cuisine caters well to children, offering a variety of kid-friendly options like Spianadina flatbreads and traditional wood-fired pizzas and fresh pasta in cozy local restaurants.
