Almería, a picturesque coastal city just a short flight from the UK, offers a delightful getaway with pleasant April temperatures around 21C and budget-friendly flights starting from £13.

Located in southeast Spain, Almería boasts a stunning backdrop of volcanic beaches, clear blue waters, and a rugged desert landscape, providing a tranquil setting with abundant sunshine throughout the year. Unlike the bustling Costa del Sol, Almería offers a more serene environment and quieter beaches, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in an authentic Spanish experience.

Famed as the ‘desert coast’ due to its proximity to the Tabernas Desert, Almería enjoys a dry and warm climate, receiving over 3,000 hours of sunshine annually and experiencing minimal rainfall. April brings mild temperatures perfect for sunbathing at 21C, while summers can see highs of 32C and 12 hours of sunshine daily, with the sea temperature reaching a comfortable 24C.

In terms of affordability, Almería proves to be a cost-effective holiday destination, with budget-friendly flights available from London and Manchester. Skyscanner reports April flights from London to Almería starting at £13, and from Manchester at £17. Even during peak summer season, flight prices remain reasonable, with one-way fares from Manchester to Almería starting at £28 in July, and from London at £33.

Once in Almería, visitors can continue to enjoy reasonable prices, as highlighted by travel experts at First Choice. A refreshing beer can cost as little as £3 (€3.50), while a romantic three-course meal for two typically ranges between £25 (€30) and £30 (€35).

Beyond its pristine golden beaches and diverse landscapes, Almería offers a range of attractions to explore. The city center, characterized by its historic Gothic and Renaissance architecture, ancient landmarks, and vibrant tapas bars, provides a charming backdrop for leisurely strolls. Additionally, visitors can venture to the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park for secluded coves, volcanic cliffs, and picturesque beaches, or opt for a guided tour of the Tabernas Desert. The nearby village of Mojácar, with its whitewashed buildings, adds to the region’s allure.

For movie enthusiasts, a visit to Mojácar offers a glimpse into famous film locations, including those featured in Indiana Jones and Game of Thrones. Notably, the MiniHollywood Oasys preserves a Wild West film set that transports visitors back in time with captivating shows and attractions reminiscent of Hollywood classics.
