A charming village in the Cotswolds has captured global attention for its enchanting allure and renowned cottages.

The Cotswolds, known for its honey-hued buildings, rolling countryside, and picturesque villages, offers some of the most stunning scenery in the country. Many of its towns have received prestigious accolades for their quintessentially English charm.

Among these standout locations are Bourton-on-the-Water in Gloucestershire, often called the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’ for its stone bridges, Broadway in Worcestershire dubbed the ‘Jewel of the Cotswolds’, and Burford in West Oxfordshire known as the ‘Gateway to the Cotswolds’. However, standing out among these gems is a village consistently lauded as the most beautiful not just in the Cotswolds but worldwide.

Nestled in Gloucestershire within the heart of the Cotswolds lies the idyllic village of Bibury. Characterized by ancient honey-colored stone structures, the meandering River Coln, and the Rack Isle water meadow, Bibury is conveniently located a short drive away from Cirencester, known as the ‘Capital of the Cotswolds’.

Bibury has gained international acclaim, being named by Forbes as the most beautiful village globally in September last year and previously recognized as one of the world’s most picturesque villages. Renowned English textile designer and poet William Morris once described Bibury as ‘the most beautiful village in England’.

Despite being one of the smaller destinations in the Cotswolds, Bibury draws thousands of visitors annually. Its highlight, Arlington Row, a row of historic cottages dating back to the 14th century, now private residences, remains the most photographed spot in Bibury and the Cotswolds at large. Some homeowners in this area have politely requested visitors not to take photos due to the high tourist footfall.

However, Bibury’s allure remains intact, with the scenic River Coln flowing nearby, complemented by lush green spaces, streams, and charming establishments. Across from Arlington Row stands Eleven Bibury, a trendy café, gallery shop, and terraced garden.

Another popular attraction in Bibury is the Bibury Trout Farm, offering visitors a scenic backdrop for fishing, crazy golf, or enjoying refreshments from the café and treats from Kelly’s Ice Cream. Additionally, visitors can stop by The Twig café for a relaxing coffee and cake break before exploring the surrounding paths and walking routes in Bibury.

For accommodation options, visitors can choose from holiday rentals like Sackville House, The Bothy, and Sundial Cottage, or opt for the four-star The Swan Hotel. While Bibury may not offer extensive activities, its picturesque setting, tranquil river walks, and peaceful green spaces against the backdrop of charming stone cottages make it a must-visit destination.
