The Ogun and Lagos State Governments have issued a joint statement regarding the recent car accident involving Anthony Joshua in Nigeria. The former heavyweight champion sustained minor injuries in the crash that tragically resulted in the loss of two lives.

In their official statement, the Ogun and Lagos State Governments confirmed that Anthony Joshua was involved in a road traffic incident along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The collision occurred between the vehicle carrying Joshua and three others and a stationary truck, leading to the fatalities. The governments expressed their condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for strength during this difficult time.

Following the accident, Anthony Joshua and another passenger were promptly taken to a specialized medical facility in Lagos. Medical assessments revealed that both individuals are stable and not in need of immediate emergency medical care. A dedicated medical team is overseeing their condition, with Joshua being conscious and in contact with his family.

The governments of Ogun and Lagos States are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the best possible medical attention for those affected. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash have also been initiated. They have requested privacy for Anthony Joshua and his family during this period.

The statement was co-signed by Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor of Ogun State, and Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy for Lagos State.

The incident involved a black Lexus Jeep carrying Joshua, which collided with a stationary lorry on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria reported that two vehicles were involved, with five adult males affected. Tragically, two individuals lost their lives, one sustained injuries, and two others were unharmed. Anthony Joshua survived with minor injuries and is receiving medical attention.

Preliminary findings suggest that the Lexus Jeep may have been speeding and lost control during an overtaking maneuver, leading to the collision with the stationary truck.
