Following the Grand National race at Aintree near Liverpool, updates have been provided on the health of three injured horses: Mr Vango, Top Of The Bill, and Quai De Bourbon. On Sunday morning, Sara Bradstock, Mr Vango’s trainer, expressed optimism about the horse’s recovery despite sustaining an avulsion fracture in the neck during the fall at the sixth fence. Mr Vango was moved to Leahurst Equine Hospital for monitoring and treatment, where he is expected to recuperate fully before returning home. Bradstock mentioned that a CT scan will be conducted to ensure no further issues before his potential discharge by midweek.
Bradstock remains hopeful that Mr Vango could return to racing in the future, depending on the outcome of the CT scan. In a positive development, Top Of The Bill, trained by Nigel and Willy Twiston-Davies, was reported to be in good condition after his fall at the last fence. The incident led to jockey Toby McCain-Mitchell receiving a 10-day suspension for not stopping the horse promptly after the fall. Both Top Of The Bill and another horse, Beauport, were confirmed to be in excellent health by their trainers.
Willie Mullins’ horse, Quai De Bourbon, also received medical evaluation following a fall at the second fence and was scheduled to return home after the race. The horses’ well-being is closely monitored by their trainers and veterinary teams to ensure a smooth recovery process.
