Tens of thousands of music enthusiasts gathered at Great Park in Irvine, California, last weekend to sing along with their favorite musicians at a groundbreaking event supporting women’s health, reproductive rights, and the end of gender-based violence.

The Daisy Chain Fields charity festival, organized by pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo, honored the 1990s’ pioneering Lilith Fair with an all-female lineup, showcasing both emerging and established stars like Chappell Roan, Doechii, Bikini Kill, and Garbage.

Before the festival kicked off on Saturday, Rodrigo revealed that they had raised $10 million for the event’s 10 non-profit partners, including Planned Parenthood and the National Institute for Reproductive Health. This amount was later doubled to $20 million through a matching donation by Melinda French Gates.

Rodrigo initially announced the festival in June, emphasizing that all proceeds would benefit organizations supporting women and girls. The festival saw special performances, including Rodrigo singing “Landslide” with Stevie Nicks, and a surprise appearance by Alanis Morissette, who sang “Ironic” with Rodrigo, making a lyric change that resonated with the audience.

The festival, named “Daisy Chain” to symbolize unity and strength, took place amidst challenges to reproductive rights in the U.S. post the Roe v Wade ruling. Rodrigo and other performers highlighted the importance of supporting women’s rights in the face of ongoing threats and setbacks.

Featuring a diverse lineup of 14 artists, including Mitski, Santigold, and The Breeders, the festival offered more than just music, with various art installations and interactive exhibits for attendees to enjoy.

Despite the scorching heat, attendees like digital creator Chase Martinez described the event as the “best festival ever,” praising the sense of community and support among participants. The festival’s philanthropic village, where non-profits shared their work, and the positive atmosphere left a lasting impact on attendees.

In a time of uncertainty for women’s rights, the Daisy Chain Fields festival served as a powerful platform to advocate for gender equality and support vital causes. The event’s success and unity demonstrated the resilience and strength of the movement for women’s rights and health.
