Rory McIlroy is currently enjoying a brief respite at his newly acquired residence in the UK before gearing up for the US Open. The world’s second-ranked golfer recently participated in the Memorial Tournament in Ohio, finishing in a respectable tie for 12th place.

Scoring four under par in preparation for the upcoming major tournament, the 37-year-old decided to skip the Canadian Open this week to return to his new home in England. Making a 3,650-mile journey from Ohio to Wentworth, McIlroy will spend six days at his exclusive Surrey estate before embarking on another approximately 3,500-mile trip to Southampton, New York, for the US Open at Shinnecock Hills.

Opting to spend quality time at his family home, McIlroy will forgo the chance to compete in the Canadian Open, which boasts a total prize purse of £7.3 million, with the winner set to claim the £1.3 million top prize.

“I had a couple of weeks off and we settled into our house in London for the summer. It was a nice time there for the last 10 days,” McIlroy shared before the Memorial Tournament.

The golfer’s £9 million residence, purchased in 2023, underwent renovations to enhance its appeal before McIlroy, his wife Erica Stoll, and their daughter Poppy relocated from Florida. Previously residing in a luxurious £16.5 million mansion in Jupiter, Florida, purchased from golf legend Ernie Els in 2017, McIlroy now finds himself in an elite neighborhood alongside notable figures such as Elton John and Cliff Richard, with the Sultan of Brunei as a prominent neighbor, boasting a staggering net worth of £22.3 billion.

Reflecting on his performance at the Memorial Tournament, McIlroy acknowledged his struggles with driver consistency throughout the season but remains optimistic about his prospects at the upcoming US Open.

Focusing on improving his game for the upcoming major championship, McIlroy aims to secure a second major title of the season at Shinnecock Hills after defending his Masters title in April. “Just try to keep getting a little bit better each and every day heading into Shinnecock,” he emphasized.
