In a surprising turn of events, it wasn’t the two fighters in the ring but rather a slap from the corner that seemed to shift the momentum of the fight.

Fabio Wardley started his heavyweight title defense strongly, knocking down Daniel Dubois within the first 10 seconds and repeating the feat in the third round. However, a wake-up slap from Dubois’ trainer, Don Charles, at the end of the fourth round seemed to ignite a fire in Dubois.

Despite Wardley’s initial success with his right hand, Dubois, fueled by the wake-up call, began to anticipate Wardley’s attacks. Dubois showcased his jab and powerful right hand, relentlessly targeting Wardley, who showed incredible resilience despite sustaining visible damage.

The fight, marked by intense exchanges and determination from both fighters, culminated in a dramatic finale. Wardley, despite being evaluated twice by the ringside doctor, continued to battle on until the referee eventually stepped in during the penultimate round to end the match.

Dubois reflected on the tough battle, acknowledging the need to push himself to the limit and thanking his support team for keeping him grounded. The victory marked Dubois’ return to the top, proving his critics wrong and reclaiming his status as a world champion.

The Londoner’s past label as a ‘quitter’ was put to rest as he demonstrated resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity, silencing doubts and emerging victorious in a thrilling showdown against Wardley.
