Inappropriate, misguided, and against the law.

That’s my opinion on the coordinated military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran. It’s reassuring to see that the majority of the public shares this view.

Unilaterally launching attacks on another independent nation to destabilize the Middle East due to political disagreements is unacceptable. The Iranian government’s track record of corruption, brutality, and human rights violations cannot justify such aggressive actions.

Despite past military interventions in countries like Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and Syria, some individuals still fail to realize that democracy cannot be imposed through bombs. The risk of repeating tragic incidents, such as attacks on innocent civilians, is high without a clear post-conflict plan. The chaos and violence in a country struggling with anarchy are far worse than living under a repressive regime.

It’s crucial to disregard reckless warmongers advocating for military engagements without legal justification or a clear exit strategy. Upholding international laws and treaties is essential, not disregarding them in favor of aggressive tactics.

Making the decision to engage in warfare should always prioritize the security and well-being of a nation’s citizens as a last resort. In this case, the Prime Minister’s decision aligns with safeguarding Britain’s interests.

The current situation in the region, with British citizens under threat from an aggressive regime, necessitates defensive actions to protect against potential attacks. Collaboration with allies to intercept hostile threats is a defensive measure, not an escalation.

During times of conflict, how the opposition responds is a testament to their commitment to national interests over political gain. Adhering to international laws and ethical principles is imperative in making the right choices.

While plans for substantial water infrastructure investments are in place to address aging pipelines in Islington, the lack of specific timelines for implementation remains a concern.

As sports fans cheer on Arsenal’s success in the Premier League, let’s also acknowledge the achievements of Islington’s Arsenal Women’s team, the reigning European champions now competing in the quarterfinals.

Social media companies must be held accountable for allowing their platforms to be exploited by malicious actors, including hostile states like Russia, to spread misinformation and undermine democratic processes. Tomorrow, the Foreign Affairs Committee will question major tech companies about their efforts to address this critical issue in a live session on YouTube.

The article was written by Emily Thornberry, Chair of the Commons Foreign Affairs Committee.
