The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has provided an update regarding travel to Cyprus in light of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

In the latest advisory issued today, the FCDO has cautioned about the potential for “terrorist attacks in Cyprus”. The agency emphasized the elevated risk of terrorist activities globally, impacting UK interests and British nationals. Travelers are urged to remain vigilant and be aware of their surroundings to mitigate any potential threats.

The FCDO highlighted that terrorist attacks could occur indiscriminately, even in areas frequented by foreign visitors. In response to these security concerns, the UK Counter Terrorism Policing offers guidance on staying safe while abroad and how to respond in the event of a terrorist incident.

While there is currently no official travel restriction for Cyprus, the FCDO underscored the heightened security risks due to regional tensions, resulting in travel disruptions. The UK government specifically mentioned a suspected drone strike at the RAF Akrotiri base on March 2.

In light of recent events, the Sovereign Base Areas Administration reported a suspected drone impact at RAF Akrotiri on March 2, 2026. British nationals are advised to follow instructions provided by the relevant authorities based on their location within the region.

Furthermore, several airlines, including easyJet, Ryanair, British Airways, and TUI, have canceled flights from the UK to parts of Cyprus amidst escalating tensions in the Middle East. Travelers are encouraged to stay informed about any potential flight updates from airlines following the latest advice from the FCDO.

For individuals with upcoming travel plans, it is recommended to maintain communication with their travel providers, especially if they are scheduled to depart soon. Given the rapidly evolving situation, travel recommendations can change swiftly, necessitating regular checks of the latest Foreign Office travel guidance before finalizing travel arrangements.

For comprehensive travel advice related to Cyprus or other Middle Eastern regions, individuals can refer to the official Foreign Office website. Additionally, guidance on minimizing the risk of a terrorist attack while abroad can be found on the government website.
