Millions of mobile and broadband customers have the opportunity to avoid upcoming bill price increases in April by taking proactive measures now. Approximately 8 million broadband subscribers and 14 million mobile users who are currently not under contract could potentially save money by exploring different options, as reported by Uswitch.

One common mistake is neglecting to review and compare deals, leading to a gradual increase in bills without awareness of better alternatives or negotiation with existing providers. Notably, prominent service providers such as O2, Virgin, Three, and Vodafone are planning to raise prices starting today.

Telecom expert Ernest Doku from Uswitch emphasized the potential for substantial savings amounting to a combined £633 if action is taken promptly. Switching providers could result in an average saving of £329 for broadband customers and £304 for mobile users transitioning from handset contracts to SIM-only plans.

Given the current intense competition among providers, particularly in the broadband sector, consumers are witnessing some of the most competitive deals in recent years. If you find yourself out of contract, chances are you are overpaying for your mobile and broadband services. Before comparing prices elsewhere, evaluate your current usage patterns, including minutes, texts, and broadband speed, to avoid paying for unnecessary allowances.

Utilize comparison websites like Uswitch, Compare the Market, Confused.com, or MoneySupermarket to identify the most cost-effective deals available. Following an online price comparison, consider switching to a more economical provider or negotiating with your current one for better rates. Polite communication can often lead to successful negotiations.

If your existing provider cannot match a lower price, consider switching to a new one. Check cashback websites for potential incentives when signing up for a new broadband or mobile plan. Furthermore, individuals receiving benefits should explore eligibility for discounted social tariffs, with prices starting as low as £12 per month for broadband and £10 for mobile services.

While eligibility criteria may vary among suppliers, individuals receiving Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Employment and Support Allowance, Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income Support, Personal Independence Payment, and Attendance Allowance may qualify for reduced tariffs. Research by Broadband Genie indicates that around 5.3 million UK households are eligible for these tariffs, but nearly 4.8 million are not currently availing themselves of this benefit.

To determine eligibility, contact your broadband or mobile provider to inquire about social tariff options.
