Greggs is set to introduce a new chicken version of its renowned sausage roll as a permanent addition to its menu. Described as “seasoned chicken wrapped in layers of crisp, golden, glazed puff pastry,” the chicken roll will be available for £1.35 starting Thursday, following the success of Greggs’ classic sausage roll and vegan option.
Fans of Greggs can get a sneak peek of the chicken roll at a pop-up VHS store on Wednesday from 3:30pm to 9pm at 15 Bateman Street in London. The pop-up will feature a roll-themed VHS store front with tapes like Lord of the Rolls and The Devil Wears Pastry.
Customers are encouraged to arrive in groups of three, representing the variety of sausage roll products now offered, with entry on a first-come, first-served basis. Additionally, the store will be serving complimentary chicken-themed cocktails and mocktails.
A spokesperson for Greggs expressed excitement about the new product, stating, “Our iconic roll trilogy is complete with the addition of the Chicken Roll, which we’ve given the star treatment to ensure it’s a hit nationwide.”
In other news, Greggs will launch a new big breakfast wrap in 82 Yorkshire stores, featuring sausage, bacon, cheesy omelette, and a hash brown. The breakfast wrap is available before 11am at select locations as part of a trial. The company also revealed plans for vending machine sales of pastry snacks, with details on rollout dates and locations yet to be disclosed.
Despite a 17.9% decrease in pre-tax profits, attributed to market challenges and hot weather, Greggs remains optimistic about expansion plans. With over 2,700 locations, the company aims to surpass 3,000 shops in the UK in the long term. Despite previous price hikes, Greggs has assured customers that no further increases are planned for the current year.
