Multiple individuals have been swiftly taken to the hospital following a car crashing into a bustling pub.
The distressing incident occurred at Murphy’s Irish Pub’s outdoor patio, situated at the intersection of Pacific Avenue and 30th Street in Virginia Beach, around 7:45 pm on Friday, according to Virginia Beach Police.
A police representative mentioned that the injured victims were promptly transported to nearby medical facilities with injuries varying from severe to minor, as reported by WAVY TV 10, the NBC affiliate for the Norfolk, Virginia region.
Images captured at the location display the vehicle mounting the sidewalk and breaching the pub’s seating area fence.
During the event, Daniel Auxier, who was working as a valet across the street, heard screeching tires and witnessed the chaotic scene unfold. Auxier described the scene, stating, “I saw bricks and smoke fly up through the air. A bunch of people jumped up, started screaming. And I just saw the passenger get out and sit down. He hasn’t stood up since.”
Auxier also noted that the patio at Murphy’s Pub was crowded at the time of the collision.
Upon reaching out to the Virginia Beach Police department for comment, they stated: “At approximately 7:54 p.m., The Emergency Communications and Citizen Services (ECCS) received a report of a crash involving pedestrians in the 2900 block of Pacific Ave. VBPD officers arrived on scene and located multiple victims. The victim’s were transported to area hospitals ranging from non-life-threatening injuries to life threatening injuries. This is an active scene and the investigation is ongoing. Further information will be provided when it becomes available.”
The cause of the crash remains unclear at this point, and it is unknown if any arrests have been made.
