Spain has sought assistance from China following a dispute with Donald Trump. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez urged Chinese President Xi Jinping to play a role in ending the conflict in Iran and other regions. Sánchez emphasized China’s unique global influence in resolving conflicts, particularly in Iran and Ukraine.

The request for Chinese intervention came after Trump’s threat to halt trade with Spain for denying US access to military bases for attacks on Iran. Sánchez criticized the US and Israel’s military actions against Iran, labeling them as unjust and illegal interventions.

Trump’s retaliatory remarks against Spain further strained their relationship, exacerbated by Spain’s resistance to NATO’s defense spending demands. Trump later praised China for agreeing to refrain from sending weapons to Iran, attributing it to his strategic moves in the Strait of Hormuz.

Xi Jinping expressed concerns over the crumbling international order amid Iran’s threats to block the Red Sea in response to the US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. The blockade impeded ship traffic, prompting global unease over escalating tensions. Xi Jinping and Sánchez discussed the chaotic state of global affairs during their meeting in Beijing.
