ITV host Rishi Persad recounted a tense moment when he observed a missile attack while covering a horse racing event in Dubai, UAE. The incident unfolded as cameramen signaled alarm, prompting Persad and fellow presenter Angus McNae to witness a red light streaking across the sky followed by explosions.

“The loud explosion sent a shiver down my spine, but we continued with the race coverage,” Persad shared with The Sun. Amidst the turmoil, the 52-year-old expressed concerns about his family’s safety, particularly his wife Holly, who is celebrating her 50th birthday soon, and their daughter Evie.

Stranded in Dubai due to flight cancellations amid the ongoing conflict, Persad remains hopeful of returning to the UK for his presenting commitments, including the upcoming Cheltenham Festival. Despite being in Dubai for the Super Saturday meeting at Meydan racecourse, Persad was unaware of the conflict until fellow presenter Megan Nicholls informed him.

Reflecting on the situation, Persad mentioned the uncertainty and the swift assurance from the Dubai Racing Club that the event could proceed safely. Despite escalating tensions and missile strikes near prominent Dubai landmarks, Persad found solace in the presence of Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, at the race meeting.

While feeling anxious about the unfolding events, Persad found reassurance in Sheikh Mohammed’s attendance, believing it signified safety. The situation intensified as US President Donald Trump announced military operations in Iran on the same day.

Despite the challenges, Persad remains committed to fulfilling his professional duties and ensuring his family’s well-being amidst the unsettling circumstances.
