Virgin Atlantic has introduced a new London Heathrow to Seoul direct service, becoming the first UK airline to offer this route. The return fares start at £889 from the UK and £426 from South Korea. The inaugural 13-hour flight featured unique dining experiences, including baby octopus. The flight, operated on a Boeing 787-9, caters to the increasing popularity of South Korean culture, known as the ‘Korean Wave.’
Passengers can enjoy various seating options, with economy seats arranged in a 3-3-3 layout, each equipped with a screen. Upper-class passengers have the luxury of converting their seats into private beds. Boeing has announced a cabin redesign for Virgin Atlantic’s Dreamliner fleet, set to be completed by 2028.
Although direct flights to Seoul may have a similar price point to other airlines, the convenience of a non-stop journey is a significant advantage. However, the environmental impact of long-haul flights should be considered, with a return economy flight producing 3.6 tonnes of CO₂ per passenger.
Virgin Atlantic’s CEO, Corneel Koster, expressed excitement about the new route, emphasizing the airline’s commitment to enhancing UK-South Korea connections and providing top-notch passenger experiences. The airline also offers holiday packages to Seoul, starting at £1499 per person, showcasing the growing interest in South Korean culture and travel opportunities.
