Ikea has officially announced the discontinuation of select items from one of its popular flat-pack furniture collections after nearly 25 years. The Malm bedroom furniture range will be gradually phased out, starting this summer, and will be completely removed by 2027.
Nevertheless, the renowned Swedish retailer has assured customers that new alternatives will be introduced to better cater to modern preferences and needs. Prices for Malm products vary, with the range starting at £15 for a glass top and going up to £426 for a complete bedroom set featuring a bed frame and four chests of drawers.
In response to inquiries about the specific items being retired, Ikea has not yet provided details. A company spokesperson emphasized the commitment to evolving product offerings to align with current consumer lifestyles.
Customers have expressed mixed reactions to the news on platforms like Reddit, with some fondly reminiscing about their long-lasting Malm furniture pieces. Ikea recently launched a promotion offering Family members 50% off all main meals every Wednesday until June 24, known as “Little Saturday” or Lillördag in Swedish, to mark the midweek point.
The meal deals include various affordable options such as pasta with tomato sauce, mac and cheese, sausage and mash, meatballs and chips, smoky aubergine and goat’s cheese tart, fish and chips, and chicken schnitzel. Additionally, each Wednesday, Ikea will unveil exclusive £5 homeware deals in-store, along with monthly discounts on selected products like soft toys and glassware.
