TUI has made the decision to cancel additional flights bound for Cyprus while a UK Royal Navy warship is en route to the area.

The announcement came after Sir Keir Starmer revealed that HMS Dragon, a Type 45 Destroyer, is being dispatched to the Mediterranean region. Additionally, the UK Prime Minister has informed Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides about the deployment of helicopters with anti-drone capabilities.

This development follows an incident where a drone struck the runway at RAF Akrotiri, the British air base in Cyprus, causing minimal damage as reported by the Ministry of Defence.

Several airlines, including easyJet, Ryanair, and TUI, had to cancel flights to Cyprus’s commercial airports on Tuesday. TUI provided an update on its upcoming flights to the island, stating that four TUI Airways flights scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, have been cancelled due to the evolving situation in the Middle East.

A TUI spokesperson expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to travelers and assured that customer service teams are actively working to assist affected passengers with rebooking options or full refunds. The airline plans to operate its next flights to Cyprus on Saturday, March 7, with continuous monitoring of the situation for any potential schedule adjustments.

Passengers scheduled to fly on Saturday are advised to stay informed through TUI’s travel alert page and app, along with staying updated on international news.

For customers currently in Cyprus, TUI emphasized its commitment to customer safety, stating that arrangements will be made to bring them back to the UK once conditions permit. Instructions for contacting TUI for assistance were provided, noting a high call volume and potential delays in response time.

While the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has not issued travel advisories against Cyprus, many airlines have opted to cancel flights amid the ongoing developments. The FCDO recommends that travelers planning trips to Cyprus stay informed through FCDO Travel Advice alerts, monitor local news, and regularly review their travel plans due to the rapidly changing situation.
