President Donald Trump participated in a lengthy Bible reading session alongside prominent Christian supporters and key Republicans, during which observers noted that he appeared to struggle while reading from a teleprompter. The reading took place in the Oval Office for Trump, while others read at the Museum of the Bible in Washington.

During the session, the US President read a passage from the Old Testament that emphasized the need for national repentance as seen in ancient Israel. This passage has long been cited by those advocating for the idea of America as a Christian nation.

Trump delivered the reading from his desk, holding an open Bible with his hands folded, facing the camera. Viewers watching the live stream commented on his reliance on a teleprompter during the reading. Some even suggested that the recording was done days prior.

The video presentation alternated between two camera angles, providing viewers with different perspectives. In a statement following the event, Trump highlighted the significance of the Bible in shaping the nation’s identity and way of life.

The passage Trump read is a well-known excerpt from the seventh chapter of 2 Chronicles in the Old Testament. It includes the famous verse: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

While reading, some viewers noted Trump’s apparent struggle with the text. The event occurred after Trump faced backlash for sharing a meme portraying himself as Jesus, which he later removed from his Truth social platform, clarifying that he was depicted as a doctor in a white robe.

Criticism persisted, with one viewer questioning Trump’s actions, stating, “Trump thinks he can commit blasphemy and post an AI picture of himself as Christ and read a few chapters of the Bible and think everything’s ok.”
