An environmentally friendly vacation park near Morpeth in Northumberland received top honors in the region at the recent Destination North East England Tourism Awards held on March 19.
Tranwell Farm Holidays emerged victorious in the Camping, Glamping, and Holiday Park of the Year category during the 24th edition of the annual ceremony. The site, situated on a family-tended farm for over six decades, has been offering a variety of distinctive glamping experiences since 2022.
Accommodation choices at the park range from grass pitches in serene meadows, to the option of bringing your own caravan or campervan. Additionally, guests can enjoy a cozy shepherd’s hut for two, a comfortable camping pod, and two woodland lodges complete with a private log-fired hot tub.
Visitors can partake in unique experiences during their stay, such as interacting with the park’s rare breed lambs, including opportunities for bottle feeding and witnessing births. The park’s location in an official ‘dark sky’ area makes it an ideal spot for stargazing.
For enthusiasts, stargazing kits with binoculars, hot water bottles, and a rug are available for hire, with the option to rent a telescope for a deeper exploration of the night sky.
Just a brief drive away lies Morpeth, a historic market town traversed by the River Wansbeck. The town boasts a traditional high street featuring a mix of chain and independent stores, along with the upscale boutiques of the indoor Sanderson Arcade.
A leisurely walk along the riverfront Carlisle Park reveals historic landmarks like Morpeth Court, a former court and gaol now housing an antiques center, café, and holiday apartments. Another intriguing stop is the Morpeth Chantry, a medieval chantry house transformed into a bagpipe museum with live performances.
Northumberland’s renowned pristine beaches are within reach, with options like Blyth Beach, just a 30-minute drive away. This sand and shingle beach offers a lengthy promenade, colorful beach huts, and council-rated ‘excellent’ water quality for swimming and surfing.
Cambois Beach, another nearby sandy stretch, features picturesque sand dunes and footpaths ideal for tranquil strolls. While lacking extensive facilities, it is a peaceful spot popular with dog walkers and fishing enthusiasts targeting flounder and cod.
