Eight children tragically lost their lives in what authorities describe as a “domestic disturbance” that led to the deadliest shooting incident in the US in the past two years. The incident occurred in Shreveport, Louisiana, with victims ranging from one to 12 years old.

According to Shreveport police spokesperson Chris Bordelon, a total of 10 people were shot across three different locations, and investigations are ongoing to gather more details about the crime scenes. The suspected shooter, identified as Shamar Elkins, was involved in a series of events that culminated in his death at the hands of law enforcement officers.

Police reported that Elkins, believed to be the father of some of the victims, engaged in a high-speed chase after a carjacking before being shot and killed by the police. Authorities mentioned that some of the children shot were related to the suspect.

Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith expressed shock at the tragic events, emphasizing the complexity of the situation. Mayor Tom Arceneaux also described it as one of the worst tragedies the city has ever faced. Witnesses, like Liza Demming, recounted harrowing moments captured on security cameras, adding to the chilling narrative of the incident.

The community, along with law enforcement, is still reeling from the aftermath of the shooting, with investigations ongoing to uncover the full extent of the tragedy. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry expressed deep sorrow over the incident and commended the efforts of first responders and law enforcement in managing the crisis.
