Lewis Moody, a prominent figure in English rugby, considers himself fortunate to be battling Motor Neurone Disease. The 47-year-old former player for Leicester Tigers and Bath was diagnosed with the condition in September last year.

Despite the grim diagnosis, Moody maintains a positive outlook, viewing his situation as an opportunity to raise awareness about the disease, following in the footsteps of Doddie Weir and Rob Burrow.

In an interview with Mail Online, Moody expressed his perspective on life, emphasizing the need to focus on daily priorities and remain optimistic despite the challenges. He acknowledged occasional moments of sadness, particularly when contemplating future experiences with his children, but stressed the importance of living in the present.

Moody revealed practical steps he is taking, such as planning house modifications for wheelchair access and recording his voice as a precaution. He highlighted the significance of having a platform to advocate for disease awareness, given his background in charity work post-rugby.

The rugby icon shared his experience of disclosing the diagnosis to his family, recounting a poignant moment with his sons, Dylan and Ethan. Witnessing their emotional reactions was the most difficult part for Moody, but he finds solace in their resilience.

Moody’s openness about his journey with Motor Neurone Disease aims to inspire others and continue his legacy of supporting worthy causes.
