Kevin Pietersen has stirred up his ongoing dispute with Alastair Cook after Cook criticized England cricketer Jacob Bethell’s choice to stick with the Indian Premier League. Bethell, who stood out in England’s defeat to Australia in the Ashes, has not seen play time with Royal Challengers Bengaluru after six matches. Cook suggested Bethell return to play for Warwickshire in the County Championship rather than idle in the IPL ahead of England’s series against New Zealand.

In response, Pietersen, who was removed from the England team in 2014 during Cook’s captaincy, disagreed with Cook’s stance. Pietersen emphasized that Cook lacks understanding of the IPL environment and the opportunity it offers to players like Bethell to learn and grow, despite not being actively involved in matches.

Expressing further opinions, Pietersen highlighted the strength of county cricket in the past compared to its current state, suggesting that Bethell’s development in India would benefit English cricket more. The former England player also recalled his own conflicts with Cook in the past over being dropped from the Test team.

As the debate continues, Bethell remains firm in his decision to stay in India, emphasizing the valuable experience and exposure he gains in the IPL environment. The young cricketer believes that his time in India is crucial for his development and improvement in the sport.
