Scarlett Faulkner, a 29-year-old mother from Limerick, Ireland, has passed away in the hospital following the withdrawal of life-support machines, as confirmed by her grieving family. She had been battling for her life at Cork University Hospital for the past three weeks after sustaining severe injuries in a roadside assault on the R494 near Birdhill on March 21.
Charges have been brought against a woman and a 16-year-old girl in connection with the assault, with the woman facing multiple charges, including violent disorder, reckless endangerment, and burglary, while the teenager is charged with assaulting Scarlett causing serious harm.
Scarlett’s sister-in-law, Josephine Duffy, shared that the decision to remove her from life support had been postponed as the family awaited the final assessment. Eventually, the life-support machine was switched off at around 4 pm on a Sunday, with five family members staying by Scarlett’s side throughout the night.
Authorities confirmed Scarlett’s passing on Monday evening, stating that investigations were ongoing. A serious assault occurred on March 21, and the Coroner has been informed about the incident. As legal proceedings are underway, the police have refrained from further comments.
After the decision to turn off Scarlett’s life support, her sister, Joanne, expressed her sorrow, while a devastated niece also shared her emotions. Following Scarlett’s demise, her cousin, Melissa McCarthy, paid tribute to her on social media. Another family member expressed their grief over Scarlett’s passing with a heartfelt message.
