The recent Monaco Grand Prix results faced new uncertainty as Alpine moved forward with their Right of Review application. Following the race, Alpine triggered the review due to two penalties given to their driver, Pierre Gasly, for exceeding the pit lane speed limit by a minimal amount. Gasly, who initially finished third, was penalized twice, dropping him to seventh in the final standings. Alpine claimed that the timing loops used to measure speeds in the pit lane were faulty, leading to Gasly and other drivers being penalized incorrectly throughout the race.
Alpine provided new evidence to support their case, including data showing Gasly activated his speed limiter on time and a witness statement from Gasly himself. Formula One Management corroborated Alpine’s claim, confirming inaccuracies in the timing loop distances. The situation will progress to a second hearing where Alpine will argue for the penalties against Gasly to be overturned, potentially altering the Monaco race outcome and causing backlash from other penalized teams.
Aside from Gasly, George Russell also faced repercussions for not serving his penalty correctly, resulting in him falling out of the points. The resolution of this issue remains uncertain.
