A Louisiana man, identified as Shamar Elkins, allegedly shot and killed eight children in a tragic incident on Sunday morning. Prior to the killings, Elkins had posted a happy picture of his daughter online. The 31-year-old army veteran carried out the attacks at three locations in Shreveport, shocking authorities and onlookers alike.
On his Facebook page, Elkins had shared a photo of himself with his eldest daughter enjoying a meal just before the violent events unfolded. He had also posted a picture with seven children during an Easter church service two weeks prior. Despite these seemingly joyful moments, Elkins had recently expressed struggles with mental health in a Facebook post, asking for divine guidance.
The shooting occurred around 6 a.m., resulting in ten individuals being shot during a domestic dispute. Elkins attempted a carjacking and was pursued by police before being fatally shot. The crime scene spanned several locations in the Cedar Grove area, with Elkins allegedly firing at multiple sites and causing multiple casualties.
Authorities confirmed that seven of the deceased children were Elkins’ own. Public figures, including Police Chief Wayne Smith and Mayor Tom Arceneaux of Shreveport, expressed shock and sorrow over the tragic incident, urging prayers for the victims and the community. The community was deeply affected by the senseless violence that unfolded on a peaceful Sunday morning.
