Glenn Byrne displayed a positive demeanor, engaging in conversation and humor, following his hospitalization after a knockout defeat to William Crolla on Friday evening. Byrne, an Irish boxer, suffered his first professional loss as Crolla, the brother of former WBA lightweight champion Anthony, ended the bout in the seventh round at Planet Ice, Altrincham.

Despite Byrne knocking down Crolla multiple times during the fight, some observers felt the match should have been stopped earlier. Referee Ron Kearney allowed the contest to continue, leading to Crolla securing a brutal knockout victory in the seventh round, bringing his professional record to 10-1, while Byrne’s record now stands at 7-1-1.

Following the fight, Byrne received medical attention and was taken to the hospital. The 29-year-old Dubliner, who is trained and managed by his brother Jay Byrne, was reported to be in high spirits as he awaited the results of a CT scan. Jay Byrne’s JB Promotions provided an update on Glenn’s condition through an Instagram post, expressing gratitude for the supportive messages received.

Promoter Eddie Hearn acknowledged the potential career-ending implications for Crolla had he lost the bout, praising both fighters for their resilience and determination. Crolla, reflecting on the fight, extended his thoughts and well-wishes to Glenn Byrne, emphasizing his respect for Byrne’s bravery and performance in the ring.
