Geoff Burrow, the father of the late rugby league legend Rob Burrow, has passed away, as confirmed by Leeds Rhinos. Geoff played a crucial role in the fundraising efforts that followed Rob’s diagnosis of motor neurone disease.
Leeds Rhinos expressed their profound sadness at Geoff Burrow’s passing on March 30. Geoff, a dedicated advocate for the MND community, supported Rob after his diagnosis in December 2019 and continued his advocacy even after Rob’s passing in June 2024.
Described as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Geoff introduced Rob to rugby at Headingley, sparking his love for the Rhinos. Throughout his career as a trade union representative, Geoff championed the voiceless.
The club extended its deepest condolences to Geoff’s wife Irene and the Burrow family, requesting privacy during this difficult time. Rob Burrow, a beloved figure in Leeds, fought MND until his passing in June 2024, supported by family and teammate Kevin Sinfield.
Their efforts led to the establishment of the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease at Seacroft Hospital. The center, opened in November 2025, was funded through various campaigns, including the one Geoff acknowledged, emphasizing the importance of supporting not only MND sufferers but also the dedicated staff.
Geoff played a crucial role in caring for Rob and their children, ensuring a peaceful journey for Rob while his wife Lindsey continued working as an NHS physiotherapist. Tributes poured in from Warrington Wolves, Wigan Warriors, and St Helens, offering love and support to the Burrow family during this challenging period.
