A tragic incident unfolded as a 77-year-old woman lost her life following a collision with a lorry, leading to her body being discovered miles away after being carried by the vehicle, according to authorities.

The West Yorkshire Police reported that the woman was hit by an HGV on Harrogate Road in Bradford at 5:35 pm BST on Wednesday. Shortly after, reports emerged that the woman’s body was found on Neville Road in East Bowling, more than three miles from the initial incident location.

Regrettably, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Subsequently, a 55-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, although he has been released on bail while further investigations are conducted.

In a statement, a police spokesperson stated, “Based on our investigations, we believe the woman involved in the collision was transported by the vehicle to Neville Road. Subsequently, reports were made about a body discovered at that site. A 55-year-old male was apprehended on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been bailed pending further inquiries.”

Detective Inspector Paul Conroy expressed, “This is a deeply distressing incident involving an elderly pedestrian in Bradford. Our sympathies are with the family, who are receiving support from specially trained officers.”

Authorities are urging anyone who was in the vicinity of Harrogate Road or Killinghall Road, or who possesses dashcam footage of the HGV or the pedestrian at the traffic lights, to come forward. In particular, officers are keen to interview the drivers of a red Ford Max, grey Skoda SUV, a silver Toyota, and a white SUV, as well as individuals who witnessed the HGV heading towards Neville Road.
