The union representing WestJet cabin crew has disclosed details of the tentative agreement reached with the Calgary-based airline this week following a one-day strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) revealed that the deal involves an increase of over 18% in wages over three years, along with a new “duty period premium” that provides additional compensation for ground work. Additionally, it encompasses extended time off, enhanced food and uniform allowances, and other benefits.
During a long holiday weekend for many, all WestJet flights across a significant part of Canada were halted as 4,400 flight attendants prepared to strike, leading to disruptions. However, a tentative agreement was reached between the air carrier and the union early Monday, leading to a gradual return to normal WestJet operations.
The cabin crew members will have the opportunity to vote on the agreement in the upcoming weeks.
