A woman faced her sister-in-law in court after she was convicted of pouring black paint on her just before her wedding. The motive behind Antonia Eastwood’s vindictive act remains a mystery to Gemma Monk, who tied the knot with Eastwood’s brother Ken at Oakwood House Register Office in Maidstone in 2024.

Eastwood, 49, was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court for causing criminal damage during the incident, resulting in damages exceeding £5,000 at Oakwood House. Gemma described Eastwood as determined to sabotage the wedding.

Despite the distressing episode, Gemma remained resolute, stating that nothing would have stopped her from marrying Ken. She even declared she would have walked down the aisle in any condition to wed her beloved.

Following the incident, where Gemma’s wedding dress was ruined, she managed to scrub off the paint and proceed with the ceremony. The conflict between Gemma and Eastwood escalated from a previous disagreement, leading to the shocking event on the wedding day.

Gemma expressed the profound impact of the incident on her mental well-being, revealing how it had shattered her sense of self and dignity. The disruption also forced the couple to cancel their honeymoon plans.

Despite the trauma, Gemma expressed her determination to move past the incident and focus on rebuilding her life with Ken. The court sentenced Eastwood to a suspended jail term and community service, along with compensation to Gemma and the wedding venue.

Gemma rejected Eastwood’s apology and felt that the sentence was inadequate for the emotional distress caused. However, she emphasized her intention to commemorate their love by renewing their vows in the future.
