A tragic incident occurred at a private school in Prudentopolis, Brazil, where a 3-year-old girl named Sofia Aparecida Iaciuk lost her life after being struck by a falling goalpost. The child was playing near the metal goalposts while other children were hanging from them when the equipment dislodged and hit her head, causing immediate cardiac arrest.

Despite efforts by paramedics to resuscitate her for about an hour, Sofia succumbed to her injuries. The local fire department reported that the incident took place while children were playing on a court that afternoon. Authorities, including forensic officers and police, have initiated an investigation at the school premises.

Expressing condolences, the local government of Prudentopolis posted on Facebook, offering thoughts and prayers to Sofia’s family. The school also mourned the loss of their student, emphasizing the impact of the tragedy on the community.

In response to the incident, the State Department of Education emphasized the importance of securing sports equipment on school grounds. They stressed the need for proper maintenance and routine inspections of equipment to prevent similar accidents in the future.

Following Sofia’s untimely death, the finals of the Parana School Games have been postponed by the Department of Sports and Recreation. The games are now rescheduled to take place later. Sofia’s funeral is set to be held at the Sao Jose Chapel, where family and friends will bid their final farewells.
