Sky has introduced two new smart home plans in the UK that include internet-connected cameras and cloud recordings starting at just £5 a month. This new offering competes with popular home security devices like Ring doorbells and Google’s Nest system. According to Sky, opting for their plans could save consumers over £100 compared to buying a Ring system from Amazon.
The first plan, priced at £5 per month with a £15 upfront fee, features a Sky Smart Doorbell and Chime. It offers full HD video recording, instant alerts to your phone, customisable activity zones, two-way talk, and 30 days of cloud video storage.
For those seeking additional security features, the Smart Home Bundle with Smart Home Plan+ is available for £8 per month with a £20 upfront fee. This package includes an indoor camera and extra app capabilities such as scheduled arming and automatic arm modes.
Paul Sweeney, Managing Director of Sky Smart Home, expressed that the goal of Sky Smart Home is to make high-quality smart technology more accessible and user-friendly. The company aims to simplify home security management and affordability to ensure that staying connected to home is effortless.
These new plans mark a shift for Sky, as they now offer standalone smart home products beyond their Protect Smart Home Insurance, which previously bundled cameras and alarms.
In comparison, Amazon currently sells the Ring Doorbell with Chime for £119.99, with additional costs for cloud recording access through a Ring Protect subscription starting at £4.99 per month.
