Ronnie O’Sullivan, the renowned snooker legend, made history by achieving a record-breaking 153 break against opponent Ryan Day during the World Open in Yushan, China. O’Sullivan, also known as ‘The Rocket,’ showcased exceptional form throughout the tournament, defeating top players like Matthew Selt and Shaun Murphy to secure a spot in the quarter-finals against Day.

In a dazzling display of skill, O’Sullivan set a new benchmark by scoring 153 in the opening frame, surpassing the previous record of 148 held by Jamie Burnett. The 50-year-old executed a flawless 16-red clearance after receiving a free ball earlier in the frame, showcasing his precision and composure under pressure.

Although O’Sullivan initially aimed for a maximum 155 break, he deviated slightly off-course during one shot but still managed to maintain his momentum. Despite settling for the pink instead of the black in the final stages, he successfully potted the last six colors to reach the historic 153 break.

The achievement drew admiration from fans worldwide, with Day graciously applauding O’Sullivan’s remarkable feat despite losing the frame. Commentators, including Neal Foulds, were astounded by the momentous occasion, emphasizing the significance of O’Sullivan’s record-breaking performance.

This remarkable accomplishment by O’Sullivan not only secured his place in snooker history but also marked a turning point in his performance during the 2025/26 season. Currently leading 4-0 against Day in the World Open, O’Sullivan’s exceptional play has captivated audiences and reaffirmed his status as one of the sport’s greatest players.
